The Boyfriend’s Pick
Shiloh is a handsome black and tan mixed breed that is speculated to be part Long Haired Dachshund and part King Charles Spaniel. He was not the dog that Leah picked out on her visit to the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society. Shiloh was the dog in the kennel next to the dog that Leah picked out – and he was the dog that Leah’s boyfriend really liked. The boyfriend had noticed that Shiloh appeared calmer than many of the other dogs and he believed that his calm nature would make him a better pet for Leah’s 2 ½ year old son, Ashton. Leah changed her mind, and Shiloh got to go home.

Shiloh as NACHS shelter dog #318
For the first week after adoption, Shiloh remained calm, quiet, and still. Then his true and zany personality slowly began to emerge. He began playing and running, especially at night after the lights go out. They discovered that Shiloh really loves to lick toes. He has a tendency to run over and pick up items that Leah and Ashton put down – and to dash off with the items- that has earned him a reputation as the thief in the family. Shiloh also has his own very style of eating. He walks over to his bowl, picks up one piece of food, carries it several feet away, then sits down to eat it. This process is repeated many times until his food is gone. At first Leah thought that Shiloh did not like the place where she had put his bowl, so she moved the bowl to the location where he was taking his food to eat it. Shiloh immediately began carrying his food, piece by piece, to a different location. Leah accepted this habit just another zany (and endearing) personality quirk.
Leah admits that her boyfriend was exactly right about Shiloh. Shiloh has been a great pet for Ashton, never ever offering to bite or growl. They play together constantly and Shiloh is extremely devoted to Ashton and to Leah. She highly recommends that people go to NACHS to adopt their next family pet and that they should not be afraid to give an adult dog a chance. Shiloh has been the source of a lot of enjoyment and laughter in her family.
