Information & Tips

REASONS TO “FIX” YOUR PET

WHY YOU SHOULD SPAY YOUR FEMALE PET:
  • No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted.
  • Less desire to roam.
  • Reduces risk of mammary gland tumors. Ovarian and uterine cancers are reduced or eliminated, especially if done before the first heat cycle.
  • Reduces the number of unwanted animals (and reduces shelter overcrowding and the need for euthanasia).
  • Helps dogs and cats to live longer, healthier lives.
WHY YOU SHOULD NEUTER YOUR MALE PET:
  • Reduces or eliminates risk or spraying and marking.
  • Less desire to roam, therefore less likely to be injured in fights or auto accidents.
  • Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and incidence of prostate disease is decreased.
  • Reduces the number of unwanted animals (and reduces shelter overcrowding and the need for euthanasia).
  • Helps dogs and cats to live longer, healthier lives.
Please discuss these issues with your own veterinarian. We hope that you will decide to have your own pet spayed or neutered. If you cannot afford to get your pet’s surgery, assistance may be available to you. Contact Mississippi Spay & Neuter (MS SPAN) for more information.
