Bob Palmer was a life-long dog owner who had found himself temporarily “dogless” when he moved to Natchez in 2009. One of the first things he did was to visit the NACHS shelter. A black and tan female Dachshund mix quickly caught his eye, and he adopted her and named her “Anna.” On the exit exam, he was told that Anna was two years old. Because the adoption date was August 24, 2009, he considers her birthday to be August 24, 2007 and he has celebrated Anna’s birthday each August 24 since her adoption.

Although otherwise in good health at the time of her adoption, Anna was found to be heartworm positive on her exit exam and Bob made the difficult and expensive decision to have her treated for that. She went through the heartworm treatment with no problems and Bob now gives her heartworm preventative each month. Her health continues to be excellent.
Anna quickly settled into her new life with Bob. She sleeps soundly with the covers on her all night but wakes up as soon as he walks into the kitchen. Anna insists on sitting in Bob’s lap while he is on the computer, almost as if she is jealous of the computer. He walks her four times a day in the downtown area and reports that her coat is so shiny and she is so beautiful that people driving by frequently slow down to look at her. People he meets will often ask to pet her. Anna is a great walking companion and understands “sit,” “this way” and “come on,” never pulling on Bob (unless she sees another dog, cat or other mammal of any sort – then a little bit of pulling may begin.)
Bob reports being very happy since adopting Anna and says, “she’s my baby!”
